Katie stood in the water, looking around for Laurie, who had mysteriously vanished. She was a bit worried, and the looks coming from onlookers weren't doing much for her either. People were pointing, mostly children, at the girl in the big, puffy, velcroed on diaper. She was about to call for Laurie when suddenly someone's hands wrapped around her ankles and she fell over into the almost waist deep water, sputtering. Laurie came up beside her, perfeclt unharmed and looking too innocent to have not done anything. Water dripped from her hair and she shook her head to clear it from her eyes. "Oh, that was cheap. I'm gonna get you for that one!" she laughed as she dove at Laurie, knocking her friend over. They both fell over into the water, their laughing cut off as they both closed their mouths to keep from getting water into their mouths. They came out of the water sputtering again and splashing water at each other. Katie hadn't had this much fun in a while, it was refreshing. Of course, she also hadn't thought she'd get to swim on this vacation because of her diapers, so this was doubly good. Laurie held up her hands in surrender, laughing to hard to continue splashing, "Truce! Truce!" she said as she tried to catch her breath. Katie swam over, as they were now in about breast height water. "Ok, surrender accepted. Where'd you learn to hold your breath for that long? I never saw you coming." Laurie smiled and gave another laugh which threatened to break into another fit of them, "I didn't hold my breath for that long. I just waited behind you until you started moving, then went back underwater. You," she said, emphasising by tickling Katie a bit in the stomach, who laughed and jumped away, "Need to be more perceptive." Katie jumped back in the water again, "I thought you said truce?" Laurie grinned again, "I lied." she said simply as she came on with a new assault of water. The two friends continued their games for ten or so more minutes before their mothers called them back to shore. This time it was Mary, Katie's mother, who met them there with a pair of towels, plastic bags, and two large disposable diapers. She rushed the two girls up to the changing room and, sitting Laurie on a plastic bag and wrapping a towel around her, took Katie into a toilet stall to check her diaper. Finding a little bit of poop in there, she stripped it off Katie and emptied it into the toilet before rolling it up and sticking it in one of the plastic bags. She then towled off Katie's bum and groin and, while still standing, taped her into a fresh diaper, then handing her a towel to dry herself off with. This process was repeated with Laurie, who was, however, clean but had begun wetting soon after her diaper was taken off and was made to sit on the toilet till she was done, then changed into a diaper. "Wow," she said, coming back to sit with Katie while she dried off, "I've never actually used a toilet before. Kind of weird." Katie laughed a bit at Laurie, who sounded like some rustic farmer talking about using a microwave or a telephone. "It's not what it's cracked up to be. I think I like diapers better." To this statement Laurie smirked and nodded. "Yeah. Afterall, at least we don't have to worry about finding a gas station on road trips, or getting up in the middle of the movies." Katie had to agree with that one. Now, with both of them changed and somewhat dried, Mary came and led them back to their little picnic area, where Marilyn had cut up slices of cake on plates and had bibs and bottles ready for the two girls. As at lunch, both Katie and Laurie were put into bibs and fed the chocolate cake by their mothers, who took alternating bites while the girls were sucking on their bottles. Mary turned to Marilyn, "Looking at these two playing in the water, it looked like a couple of young kids having a good time. I haven't seen Katie like this in 10 years. I like it." Marilyn shrugged, "Laurie's almost always been a little kid with me." Mary nodded, "How did that start, anyway? I've been kind of wondering that, if you don't mind me asking, that is." Marilyn sighed, she ended up telling this story a lot. So she explained about Laurie's disability, and how they had decided after a counselor's suggestion when Laurie was in elementary school that it might be for the best if Laurie were to come to terms with her disability through being treated as a baby. She had gone for the idea and had ended up quite liking it, of course the fact that she needed diapers, couldn't feed, dress, or change herself, and was and always would be completley illiterate did help with that. "She's quite happy in her special ed class, though sometimes she worries about how she's going to live when she gets older. She'll always need someone to take care of her, she won't ever be able to live alone. But here we are, getting all morose again. And with the children on our laps, being fed." she said, looking down at Laurie, who was curled up in her lap, sucking on her bottle having finished her cake. She looked quite content. Mary was just finishing feeding Katie her's, and both mothers moved their girls to the blankets as the two began to doze a little. "Laurie looks like she could use a bit of a nap, and Katie to." she said as she gently pried the bottle from Laurie's unresisting hands. Katie was dozing off as well, and Mary did the same to her, putting a towel under her head as a blanket. Both girls slept for about an hour, lying there in the shade of the umbrella in their blankets while their mothers chatted and read. Katie came to first, and mostly woke up because of a cruel, female teenage voice above her saying, "So, Katie Donald wears diapers like a baby! Hah, always knew she was a retard!" Katie looked up, and wished she hadn't. To be continued....
