"So around noon by the playground? Cool, see you then, Laurie." Katie said as she happily hung up the phone. Her aunt and cousin were out at the moment, leaving just her and her mother in the house. "Mom!" she shouted up the stairs, "Laurie says that she and her mom will come to the park at noon!" "Alright, Katie. That's about forty five minutes from now. It'll take about twenty to get to the park, so why don't we pick up some food on the way and head out now?" her mother said as she came down the stairs. In her hand she had Katie's diaper bag which she had loaded with diapers, wipes, and baby powder, a plain pastel pink and purple t-shirt, and her purse. She handed Katie the t-shirt, "Here," she said, "Change into this, then go get your socks off and your sandals on. Once your done tell me and I'll put some sunscreen on you." Katie nodded and ran off to the front hallways, her diapers rustling furiously and her pace a slight waddle. She got her new shirt on, her socks off, and her new sandals on. Once she was done she called to her mother who came over and lathered up her legs, arms, and face with sunscreen, handing her a big hat and sunglasses to wear. She then got her shoes on, grabbed her purse, Katie's diaper bag, and a cooler and motioned for her to come along as they walked to their car. Heading down to the supermarket, they picked up some sliced bread, cold cuts, condiments, fruits, a couple bottles of fruitjuice, a few slices of cake for desert, and a few odd looks at Katie in the process from customers who stayed in a rather embarrased silence. Having done this, they headed to Mark Clarence Memorial Park. Named after the founder of the town, the park boardered on the lake and the playground they were meeting Laurie and her mother at was situated just within view of the beach in a nice clearing of trees. It was a long drive over there, but at least the car was air conditioned and they had found a decent station on the radio. Katie felt herself dribbling a bit while they drove, but nothing major. Katie's diaper won them more odd stares in the parking lot of the park, but she just shrugged them off. She thought she looked rather cute, decked out like a baby and probably would have been more appropriate riding in a giant stroller with a pacifier in her mouth. She helped her mother with the bags and the cooler, which they had filled with ice, the juice, and the fruit. They headed down to the playground and found Laurie and her mother already waiting there for them. Laurie wore a bikini top and her large disposable diaper and was lying on a large beach blanket while her mother covered her in sunscreen. Her mother was dressed in a one piece bathing suit with shorts on, and beside her lay what was presumably Laurie's diaper bag, a beach umbrella, another towel, and a pair of lawn chairs. They looked up as Katie and her mother approached and as soon as Laurie was done being lathered up she ran over and gave Katie a big hug. "You're looking a lot less nervous," she told her friend as she lead her over to her towel and unrolled the other one. "I feel a lot less nervous," Katie said as she took her seat, noticing that the indicators of her diaper that were between her legs had faded out. "So, we brought a little picnic with us. Sandwhiches, fruit, juice, and cake. Sounds good, eh?" Laurie smiled as her and Katie's mother set up the chairs and the umbrella, "Yeah, sounds good. Gonna be a bit weird for you being fed by your mom in public, don't you think?" Katie laughed, layed back on her towel, and said back jokingly, "Bit weird wearing and using diapers in public, don't you think?" "Touche, my friend, touche." said Laurie and the two began laughing. "Quite a pair those two make," Katie's mother said to Marilyn, Laurie's mother. The other woman smiled and sat back. "Laurie doesn't make friends easily, at least among kids her own age who act their age. Katie's a great kid, it's a pity that you don't live here." Marilyn said, sighing. "Well, as my sister Amanda says 'This town is a great place to visit, but the winters are brutal and the locals are boring', no offense." Katie's mother, Mary, replied, causing Marilyn to laugh. "None taken," she said as she watched Katie and Laurie chat, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they both were wearing diapers, "Tourist towns can get boring during the off season, since half the business that depends on the trade just rolls over and goes into hibernation. But the school is nice and the people who run the special ed class are really sweet. They treat Laurie like a teenager with a problem, but who's still in many respects a normal teenager." Mary nodded, "I'm glad they treat her that way. I'm actually a little worried about what's going to happen to Katie when other people find out that she has to wear diapers." she said rather glumly. "But hey," her voice being more cheerful, "We're not here to brood. That can wait till later, let's keep the talk a bit lighter." Marilyn smiled, she quite liked this woman, "Sure." And from there their talking just turned to fairly light issues. "So," Katie said, "Tell me more about these swimming diapers. I mean, I want to go swimming while I'm here, but mom says that unless the place you get them from is nearby then she won't get any." Laurie smiled conspiratorily, "Well then, I know it was supposed to be a surprise, or at least mommy planned it that way, but we brought along an extra one of mine so that we could hopefully go swimming today." she said with mirth in her voice. Katie nearly squealed in delight, so she would get to swim this vacation! "Cool!" Katie exclaimed, causing both her mother and Marilyn to look over. "Uh, nothing. Hey! Is anyone hungry? I know I am." Both mothers laughed. "Kids!" said Mary, "Always hungry. Sure, if Marilyn and Laurie are both hungry," mother and daughter both nodded, "Alright then. Katie, you can break open the food and we can get this show on the road." Katie did just that, and while her mother was making sandwhiches Marilyn tied a big, adult sized bib around each girl's neck and filled up two big baby bottles with fruit juice. Getting some odd looks from other people, but utterly ignoring them, Katie and Laurie both sat on their mothers laps while they were fed their sandwhiches and bottles. Mary, who wasn't used to this having not hand fed Katie since she was a year old, found it difficult to get the sandwhich into her daughter's mouth, but she managed, taking bites from her own while Katie sucked on her bottle. Marilyn, on the other hand, was adept at feeding a variety of foods to her teenage daughter and Laurie was quickly done her sandwhich. Both girls had mayonaise all over their faces when they were done. "You know, I never thought I'd say this," said Mary while she wiped Katie's mouth clean, "But I'm actually enjoying this." Marilyn smirked as she put Laurie down while the teen still nursed at her bottle, "It really grows on you. I never thought that I'd ever get used to feeding a child for her entire life, but then again I thought the same about the diapers and dressing her, so I guess I got used to it. Tell you girls what, how about we get you both into your swimming diapers, and Katie I brought a top for you, you can both go swimming for a while, then come back and have some cake, then you can play on the playground until we leave. How does that sound?" Both girls agreed happily and Marilyn took them off to the changerooms to change them out of their regular diapers and into their swimming ones while Mary watched their gear. When they returned Marilyn rushed them down to the water before they could have an accident on land and while they swam and played around like young children in the lake, she and Mary watched from the shore overlooking the beach. Katie had never thought she would get to swim again, and now she was doing so. This summer was definitly looking good. To be continued...
